    Halloween Costume 2

$40 to print at Kinkos and 10 hours later...

To anyone who wants a Mordecai head of their own heres a link to download the PDF so that you can print and assemble on your own.

Just a forewarning, tabs aren't labeled so it'll be like putting together a puzzle but for the most part it's pretty easy to figure out which piece goes to what. Oh and heres a wip of Rigby who'll be poking out of my backpack.

    Costume Progress

Here are the different stages of construction for Mordecai's head and for my ACM homies who want to make their own papercraft, here is the workflow.

    Rough modeling in Maya.

Polygon reduction, simplifying the topology into triangles so that it's easier to fold and put together. Fixed the back of the head.

Made UV maps in order to texture in Photoshop. I HATE making UV maps and these usually take me hours to do right, but afterword surfacing (my favorite part) goes by pretty quickly.

OHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhh! Export the model as a .obj and open it in Pepakura Desgin.

Unravel the model and start rearranging the paper folds so that each piece fits onto a page of paper. Everything up to this point took ~20 hours D: Tomorrow is all about printing, folding and gluing, which is probably going to take another 8 hours.

    I need to animate

Installed this new program called Animate pro and it simulates a traditional animator's workflow, right down to the flipping and tracing. Just finished watching all the videos for it and I already love it more than Flash. Should have listened to Linda and gotten this program years ago ._. Haven't done anything else today except get antiquated with the program and caught up to all the 11second club winners I missed. I swear, I have more unfinished 11second club entries than key poses of this months attempt...ugh.

Here are some drawings of the character I'm animating. First one is me trying to find a character design and the second is me playing around with some expressions.

And this last one is more practice in Sketchbook. I'm trying not blend with opacity and instead use hard strokes...but it's hard D:

    Sweet Home Café

Its been a while since I was out with the boys and I'm glad I came out last night. Shout-out to the boys for showing me the little restaurant we went to. It's part shabu-shabu, with a sushi plate pricing system which is really different from anything I've ever had. Food is Taiwanese that's a hot pot place and was totally boss. The restaurant is pretty small and the line takes a while but the food and service is excellent. Free desert!?!? I didn't know what to expect, but I know I got my money's worth. Honestly it felt like I was robbing the place for how cheap everything was.

I didn't get much animating done last night but I did finish this portrait before going to bed. I know I've almost always drawn women so I looked for the dirtiest, manliest man in my reference folder to render next. I'm still figuring out how to use this new sketching program so it took a lot longer to finish than I expected. Dota2 streams don't help either.
